Richmond lands TV role

A MAJOR new BBC television drama is set to be filmed in the Richmond area over the next six weeks.

A Great Deliverance, a murder mystery based on a novel by Elizabeth George, is set mainly in North Yorkshire and locations will include Richmond and parts of Swaledale and Wensleydale.

Filming begins next week, although exact locations are being kept secret, and goes on until early November. The programme is due to be broadcast on BBC1 next year.

The detective story is set in the ficticious Keldale, for which the film crew are using several locations, and involves two sparring Scotland Yard officers sent to investigate the brutal murder of a dales farmer.

The drama stars Nathaniel Parker, who played Rawdon Crawley in the BBC1 adaptation of Vanity Fair, and Sharon Small, seen recently in Glasgow Kiss on BBC1.

A BBC drama spokesman said Richmond and the surrounding area were chosen because the town offered several spots suitable for Keldale and the dales scenery was so attractive.
